The 5-Sunday Plan: a month-long focus on missions in Illinois
September has five Sundays. On each Sunday, focus on a different aspect of the mission work IBSA churches support.

Sunday 1 (9/1): We can do more, together!

  • Hang the posters in prominent locations in your building.
  • Download the bulletin announcements from IBSA.org/mio.
  • Cut and paste one announcement into your church bulletin or newsletter each week.
  • Post the “Pray & Give” promo video on your church’s website.
  • Encourage worship attenders to sign up for the e-mail devotions at the address on the video: www.IBSA.org/pray4illinois
  • In worship, show the video Churches Together: Nate Adams” or share the information from the pull-out published in the August 26 Illinois Baptist newspaper. (We will link here as soon as it’s ready.)
  • Ask a missions leader to lead prayer in the worship service: Pray for more churches to join the Mission Illinois Offering & Week of Prayer.
  • Pray about your church’s goal.

Sunday 2 (9/8): Missions begins in the heart.

  • In worship, show the video “Share Christ: Meredith Flynn” about mission trips, or share the information from the pull-out section published August 26 (coming soon!) in the Illinois Baptist newspaper.
  • Ask a church member to share about their mission trip experience.
  • Announce your church’s goal.
  • Pray for more churches to support the offering and to go on mission trips in Illinois and worldwide.

Sunday 3 (9/15): We can improve the place where we live.

  • Show the video “Bring Hope: Barnicio Cureton or share the information from the pull-out section published in the August 26 Illinois Baptist newspaper. (We will link here as soon as it’s ready.)
  • Distribute the Mission Illinois Prayer Guide/bulletin insert. Encourage worship attenders to pray every day this week. Encourage them to sign up for daily e-mail devotions. The address is at the top back side of the Prayer Guide. www.IBSA.org/pray4illinois
  • From the Prayer Guide, point out significant facts about the lostness of people in Illinois.
  • Pray for the salvation of lost people in Illinois, and for the new church plants trying to reach people in cities and troubled communities.
  • Distribute the Mission Illinois Offering envelopes.
  • Announce your church’s goal. Remind givers that all gifts stay here in Illinois, for missions in Illinois.
  • Collect the offering.

Sunday 4 (9/22): It’s a big state, but we have a bigger God.

  • Show the video “Partner to Plant: Jonathan Peters” or share the information from the pull-out section published in the August 26 Illinois Baptist newspaper. (We will link here as soon as it’s ready.)
  • Ask someone who, like Pastor Peters, has a special burden for the missions of lost people in Illinois’ major population centers, to share about the spiritual needs of our cities.
  • Or, ask someone to share about their experience as they prayed for missions in Illinois this week.
  • Announce your church’s progress toward your offering goal. Update the “thermometer” progress poster.
  • Distribute Mission Illinois Offering envelopes to those who need them.
  • Ask someone to pray for established churches to partner with new congregations in the cities. Pray for church planters such as Ken and Kathy Schultz in Plainfield. Pray for IBSA churches to give generously today.
  • Collect the offering.

Sunday 5 (9/29): Most anything can become a missions opportunity.

  • Show the video “Help Others: Jan Kragness” or share the information from the pull-out section published in the August 26 Illinois Baptist newspaper. (We will link here as soon as it’s ready.)
  • Ask someone to share their experiences with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. Explain how SBC Disaster Relief is the third largest relief agency in the U.S., right behind the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Part of the Mission Illinois Offering supports the IBSA team who train and mobilize volunteers.
  • Announce your church’s progress toward your offering goal. Update the “thermometer” progress poster.
  • Ask someone to pray for IBSA’s Disaster Relief teams. Pray for completion of the Mission Illinois Offering in your church and all participating churches.
  • Collect the offering and send it to IBSA to support missions in Illinois.
