RESOLUTION REGARDING HUMAN EXPLOITATION

WHEREAS, our society struggles with the value of human life; and

WHEREAS, Creator God breathed the breath of life into man (Genesis 2:7) who was fearfully and wonderfully made by Him (Psalm 139:14) in His own image (Genesis 1:27), thereby bestowing great value on each human being so created; and

WHEREAS, Human Exploitation is the unethical, selfish use of human beings for the satisfaction of personal desires and/or profitable advantage; and

WHEREAS, the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein (Psalm 24:1) and we are commanded to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:29); and

WHEREAS, we are admonished in Scripture to keep our tongues from evil and our lips from speaking lies (Psalm 34:13); and

WHEREAS, much of current media exploits children and families by sending negative information and images and portraying actions and lifestyles that do not conform to Biblical standards; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that we, the messengers to the Illinois Baptist State Association meeting in Springfield, Illinois, November 13-14, 2013, will strive to carefully tend the abundant creation which God has entrusted to us, to respect our neighbors–those present, those to come or citizens in another country, and refrain from creating an unequal burden on those who are most vulnerable by destroying or defacing our physical world; and be it further

RESOLVED, that we will refrain from dishonoring or disrespecting others by bullying them with abusive treatment through force or coercion or threats, whether in person, through the Internet, interactive technologies or mobile phones which causes willful and repeated harm; and be it further

RESOLVED, that we will strive to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute, speak up and judge fairly and defend the rights of the poor and needy (Proverbs 31:8-9) by making ourselves aware of the issues of human trafficking and by being vigilant in dealing with persons, particularly in service industries, to report to the National Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888) instances where women, men and children are coerced or forced into labor and servitude, whether for labor and/or for sexual acts; and be it further

RESOLVED, that we will strive to test everything, hold on to the good and avoid every kind of evil (I Thessalonians 5:21-22); and be it finally

RESOLVED, that we will flee from sexual immorality (I Corinthians 6:18), whether in books, magazines, the Internet, photos, film, video, video games, TV, sound recordings, drawings, advertisements, animation, mobile phones, sex-oriented businesses or sexting (the use of a cell phone for sending sexual words and pictures), and encourage one another, as appropriate, (i) to join One Million Men Porn Free in an effort to challenge all men to make a commitment to live a pornography-free life; or (ii) to join One Million Women Warriors Praying to storm the gates of hell and disable Satan’s weapon of pornography.
