WHEREAS, On November 27, 2012 The Civil Federation issued a statement supporting Governor Pat Quinn’s veto of Senate Bill 1849 (SB1849) which would authorize casino gaming in Chicago and significantly expand gaming in other parts of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Governor Quinn emphasized deficiencies in the proposed gaming expansion’s regulatory oversight and ethical requirements; and
WHEREAS, gaming violates the New Testament teachings to love our neighbors (Mark 7:12) and to work for their well-being (Philippians 2:3-4) and
WHEREAS, gaming squanders God’s valuable resources (1st Corinthians 10:26) that He chooses to channel through the lives of His people who as stewards of this trust are commanded to be faithful; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Illinois Baptist State Association meeting in Springfield, Illinois, November 13th - 14th affirm that biblical doctrine prohibits all forms of gaming; and be it further
RESOLVED, That we continue to oppose steadfastly all efforts by any court or state legislature to expand gaming in Illinois; and be it finally
RESOLVED, that we call on Illinois Southern Baptist churches to commit to guard our religious beliefs as defined by Scripture (Romans 14:19-21).
