2010 Bible Drills FAQs and Updates
|
Illinois Baptist State Association Children's Bible Drill FAQs and Updates
The purposes of Children’s Bible Drill are to help children:
- Increase in the knowledge of the Bible.
- Develop skills in locating Bible books and Key Passages.
- Memorize the names of the books of the Bible in order and the Bible verses and Key Passages identified on the current Verse Cards.
- Learn how to apply the Bible to their lives.
When do I begin Bible Drill?
Most churches begin with the new church year in September. Beginning this early allows them to use a variety of activities to help children learn the verses, Key Passages and the books of the Bible. Some churches wait until January to begin. Beginning in January means children must learn most of the material at home and spend class time practicing drilling.
When do I schedule my church drill?
When you know the drill date for your association, schedule your church drill a week or two before that date.
What are the dates for the Association and State drills?
Associational Drills: Contact your local Association for drill dates, locations, and contact information.
State Drills:April 24, 2010 at the following locations:
- Tabernacle Baptist Church, Decatur
(Only State Speakers Tounament Location)
- First Baptist Church, Effingham
- Broadview Baptist Church, Broadview
- First Baptist Church, Marion
Which version of the Bible do I use with Bible Drill?
IBSA currently drills in NIV or KJV.
What is a Key Passage?
Each year children learn the location of 10 important passages in the Bible. The older children must be able to find the passage when the caller gives the title. For example, if the caller says “The Crucifixion,” the children must know that the reference is John 19 and be able to find the passage in 10 seconds. At the end of three years in Children’s Bible Drill, children will be able to find 30 Key Passages.
The younger children only need to know the reference to the Key Passage.
Where do I find resources?
Children's Bible Drill resources are available in a new line of curriculum called Bible Skills, Drills, & Thrills. While we were developing the new resources we included some changes that you asked for. The primary change is that children will be learningcomplete verses and a few verses will be totally different.
Here are some additional changes:
1. Changing from Cycles 1, 2, and 3 to:
- Red Cycle for 2009 drill (Cycle 1)
- Blue Cycle for 2010 drill (Cycle 2)
- Green Cycle for 2011 drill (Cycle 3)
2. Some small changes in the Key Passages of the Red Cycle:
1. The Creation: Genesis 1–2 change to Genesis 1–2:3
2. The Israelites Leave Egypt: Exodus 12:37-43 change to Exodus 12:37-42
3. The Model Prayer: Matthew 6:1-15 change to Matthew 6:5-15
3. Bible Skills, Drills, & Thrills Curriculum will replace:
- All Bible Buddies materials
- Children’s Bible Drill Games and Activities
- Children’s Bible Drill Workbooks
- Children’s Bible Drill Verse Cards
What about the name for Bible Drill?
Children’s Bible Drill will still be called Children’s Bible Drill. The resources for it and Bible skills education for other children will be called Bible Skills, Drills, & Thrills. The Youth Bible Drill will not change. Please continue to use the same drill cards as past years.
Have any of the rules for Bible Drill have changed?
No.
What about children in grades 1–3?
Bible Skills, Drills, & Thrills provides a Bible skills development curriculum for all children in grades 1–6. We will continue to have Younger Children’s Bible Drill but the Drill has been altered to match the information in the Lifeway Bible Skills, Drills & Thrills program. Hide Article Printer Friendly
